Back in 2019 I began volunteering at a local elementary school by helping out with the afterschool science club.
I thought a great demonstration for the kids would be to make a simple electric motor.
Now that I had my working version I thought a great project for the kids would be to make their own motors. So I put together kits and wrote detailed instructions and brought it all in the next time the club met.
The kids each had a working motor in twenty minutes (I like to imagine it was a combination of their genius and my instructions that let them succeed so quickly). It was extremely gratifying to see them grasp the basics of how an electric current and a magnetic field interact to create motion. The version that the kids made is shown in the video below.
